Project: Hairband
Materials:
- Cotton fabric from our Fabric Touch
- Seamstress's Wallet
- Loop Turner
- Sewing machine
Instructions:
1. Cut a 4-inch wide strip, keeping the same length of fabric.
2. Fold the strip in half with the design facing inwards, once lengthwise and once widthwise, and cut the two ends so that they are even.
3. Mark a 2-3 inch space in the center of the band with fabric chalk.
4. Sew from one end to the other, leaving the center space open.
5. Use the loop turner to turn the piece.
6. To sew the center with an invisible stitch (by hand):
a. Thread the needle and make a knot at the end of the thread.
b. Make the first stitch from the inside out so that it is hidden.
c. Make a stitch on the inside of one side of the fabric, and make the next stitch directly on the other inside side. Then, continue on that same side, and cross back to the other side on the next stitch, always on the inside of the fabric, forming a ladder-like pattern, and pulling little by little to close the space. (See diagram).
d. To finish, make a knot in the last stitch and pass the needle through, crossing through the center of the band and coming out the other end, so that the knot is hidden.
