Project: Fabric Hearts to decorate or give as gifts on Valentine's Day or any other occasion ♥
Materials:
- 1/4 yard of the fabric of your choice (In the video we used 1/4 of solid color cotton fabric , 1/4 of printed cotton , and 1/4 of velvet ).
- Sewing machine
- Seamstress's Wallet
- Thread (Matched to match fabric colors)
- Loop Turner
- Stuffing (Poly-Fil or fabric scraps)
- Optional: Decorative ribbon
Instructions:
Option #1 (Simple)
- Create your own template by drawing a heart on a blank sheet of paper to make it completely unique. (If you prefer to use a pre-made template, you can use the one we've included in the downloadable resources section.)
-
Trace the pattern onto the fabric and cut it out.
♥ Tip: If the fabric you are using is easy to cut, fold each piece in half with the design facing outwards and cut them all together.
(If you want to add a pocket to the heart, follow the steps in Option #2 )
- Place one of the heart halves on top of the other, with the design facing inwards, and secure them with pins or sewing clips.
-
Sew the two parts together, leaving a space of at least 2 inches on one side of the heart.
♥ Tip: The top part of the heart is a little tricky to work on since you have to keep moving the fabric to sew the curves, so take your time, go slowly, and don't worry if it's not perfect. For pointed areas, keep the needle inside, raise the presser foot, move the fabric in the direction you're going to sew, lower the presser foot, and continue sewing .
- Turn the piece over using a loop turner to make it easier, and arrange all the edges.
- Use Poly-Fil or fabric scraps to fill the heart.
- Close the heart by hand-sewing it with the invisible stitch as shown in Diagram #1.
- Optional: Add a decorative ribbon or cord, so you can add sweets or any other detail.
Option #2 (Pocket)
- Follow steps 1 and 2 of Option #1
- If you want to make a pocket for the heart, trace half of the pattern onto the fabric and cut it out .
- Fold the top of the pocket over and sew a straight line.
- Cut off any excess from the sides of the fold.
- Place the pocket over one of the heart parts and place the other part on top, making sure all the layers are properly aligned, and securing them with pins or sewing clips.
- Sew all the pieces together, leaving a gap of approximately 2 inches. (The gap should not be inside the pocket.)
- Follow the steps
