Instructions:

1. Open the Cricut Design Space program and upload your design file. (See downloadable resource at the end of the instructions.)
Upload > Upload Image > Browse

2. Select Image Type
Choose the image type called "Complex" to ensure that all image details can be edited.

3. Background Remover
a. Click on all the white spaces in the image to remove the background.
b. Click on the + symbol to enlarge the image and select the smaller spaces.
c. Click on "Preview Cut Image" to ensure everything is correct.
d. When finished, click on "Apply and Continue".

4. Select Upload Type
Click on "Cut Image" and continue to the next step.

5. Once the image has been uploaded, select it and add it to the canvas.

6. In the top bar, adjust the size as desired in the box titled Size.

7. In the column on the right, click "Duplicate" to duplicate the image according to the number of colors you will be using. In this case, we duplicate the image 4 times, since we will be using 4 colors (White, Black, Red, and Gold).
*Optional: Duplicate the image once more to have it as a backup in case you need to start over.

8. First Layer (White Color)
a. Select one of the images you duplicated, and click on the "Contour" option that appears in the right corner of the screen.
b. This will be the base of the image, which is why you should click on "Hide all Contours" and make sure that only the first layer remains selected in the right-hand column of the screen titled "Hide Contour". Then, close the window.
c. Change the layer color to white by clicking on the black color box that appears in the top bar of the screen in the box titled "Operation".

9. Second Layer (Black Color)
a. Select another of the duplicated images. This layer will be the black border of the final image, so there's no need to edit it. Place it above the first layer.

10. Third Layer (Red Color)
a. Select another of the images you duplicated, and click on the "Contour" option that appears in the right corner of the screen.
b. Click on "Hide all Contours".
c. Click on the Santa Claus hat in the image, which will cause this silhouette to be selected in the right-hand column of the screen.
d. Click on the first silhouette that appears in the right-hand column to remove it from the selection. Only the hat should be highlighted, indicating that it is selected. Then, close the window.
e. Change the layer color to red by clicking on the black box that appears in the top bar of the screen in the box titled "Operation".
f. Place this layer on top of the first two layers in the correct position to form the image of Santa Claus.

11. Fourth layer (Gold color)
a. Select another of the images you duplicated, and click on the "Contour" option that appears in the right corner of the screen.
b. Click on "Hide all Contours".
c. Click on Santa Claus's face, nose, and eyes in the image, which will cause these silhouettes to be selected in the right-hand column of the screen.
d. Click on the first silhouette that appears in the right-hand column to remove it from the selection. Only Santa's face, nose, and eyes should be highlighted, indicating that they are selected. Then, close the window.
e. Change the layer color to gold by clicking on the black color box that appears in the top bar of the screen in the box titled "Operation".
f. Place this layer on top of the other layers in the correct position to form the image of Santa Claus.

12. Remove the extra layer if you don't need it.

13. *Optional: If you wish to resize the finished image, select all layers together by clicking on the screen and dragging the cursor until the selection box covers the entire image. Then, resize as desired in the program's top toolbar under the "Size" option.

14. Click on "Save" in the gray bar that appears at the top of the program.

15. Click on Make It , and follow the steps as indicated by the program, choosing the blade you will use (Fine Point Blade) and the type of vinyl (HTV/Heat Transfer)

16. Select the " Mirror " option to flip the design. This step is always important for heat transfer vinyl projects.

17. Cut the vinyl pieces of each color to the size you need for each layer and place the first one in the upper left corner of the cutting mat. Press the button on your Cricut machine to begin cutting.

18. Repeat step #17 with the other colors.

19. Use the "Weeding Tool" to clean all layers, that is, remove the pieces of vinyl that are not part of the final design.

20. Place the first (white) layer on the piece of clothing or fabric accessory you wish to customize. Make any necessary adjustments to ensure it is in the correct position before applying heat.

21. Use your Easy Press iron to apply light heat to the first layer, always protecting the image with either parchment paper or the clear transfer paper that comes with the heat transfer vinyl. Gently lift the image to check if it has transferred correctly. If it hasn't transferred yet, you can apply more heat.

22. Repeat steps #20 and #21 with the second (black) layer to form the border of the image and determine where the other layers will be placed.

23. Repeat steps #20 and #21 with the third (red) layer, and fourth (gold) layer.
*Important: If you wish to use a glossy HTV vinyl on any of the layers, this must be the last one you apply, as it will not be possible to stick another layer over glossy vinyl.
24. Turn the garment or fabric accessory inside out and apply heat to the back of the design.
