- Velvet fabric
- Sewing machine
- Seamstress's Wallet
- Thread (Matched to match fabric colors)
- Loop Turner
Instructions:
1. Cut a piece of fabric 22 inches long and 3 1/4 inches wide.
2. Fold the fabric in half, and secure it with sewing clips or pins.
3. Sew a straight line along the piece of fabric, forming a tube, and leaving approximately 1 inch on each side.
4. Turn the piece over using a "loop turner" to make the process easier.
5. Join the ends of the piece with sewing clips, trying to make them even, with the soft side of the fabric facing inwards, and then sew them, so that when the piece is straightened the seam is on the inside.
6. Place a sewing clip or a safety pin on one of the ends of the elastic to hold it in place, and pass the end through the fabric tube until it goes all the way around, without letting go of the other end.
♥ Tip: The elastic will determine the size of the scrunchie , so check if the size is right for you or if you want to cut a little more of the elastic before continuing.
7. To secure the elastic, join the ends and sew them by hand.
8. Close the piece using the invisible stitch as shown in the diagram.
♥ Tip: If you have any questions, you can review the written instructions and the video tutorial: Hairband
Steps to make the invisible stitch:
a. Thread the needle and tie a knot at the end of the thread.
b. Make the first stitch from the inside out so that it is hidden.
c. Make a stitch on the inside of one side of the fabric, and make the next stitch directly on the other inside side. Then, continue on that same side, and cross back to the other side on the next stitch, always on the inside of the fabric, forming a ladder-like pattern, and pulling little by little to close the space. (See diagram).
d. To finish, make a knot in the last stitch and pass the needle through, crossing through the center of the band and coming out the other end, so that the knot is hidden.
All done! Now stay tuned to our ideas platform, as this month we'll be publishing an additional tutorial where we'll teach you how to sew another accessory that you can use on its own or add to your scrunchie.
