Blusa Sencilla para el Verano

Simple Blouse for Summer

Coralie Sanabria

Project: Simple Blouse for Summer

Materials:

Instructions:

1. Take the measurements of your chest and arms with a measuring tape.

2. Perform the following calculations to determine the length of each of the pieces of fabric you will need for this project:

• Chest measurement multiplied by 1.5
(Example: 34" x 1.5 = 51")

Arm measurement multiplied by 1.5
(Example: 12" x 1.5 = 18")

3. Determine the desired width for each piece of fabric.

As you can see in the diagram, in this tutorial we used a piece of fabric for the bodice that measures 51" long and 15" wide, so the blouse has a cropped style. If you wish, you can modify the piece to make the blouse more covered. Similarly, the sleeves in this project measure 18" x 6", but if you want longer sleeves, you can adjust the measurements.

4. Cut the 3 pieces of fabric according to the measurements you have calculated.

5. To create the body piece, use the larger piece of fabric. Fold the fabric in half and sew a straight line, joining the two ends.

6. Make a fold of approximately 1 inch at the top of the piece, and sew a straight line, creating a tunnel to pass the elastic through, leaving a space of at least 1 inch at the end.

7. Repeat the process on the bottom of the piece.

8. Calculate the measurements of the elastic bands as follows:

• For the body: Chest measurement + 1
(Example: 34" x 1 = 35")
• For arms: Arm measurement + 1
(Example: 12" x 1 = 13")

9. Cut 2 pieces of elastic with the measurement you calculated for the body, and 4 pieces with the measurement you calculated for the arms.

10. Pass one of the long elastic bands through the tunnel you created at the top of the body piece, until it reaches the other end.

♥ Tip: Use a safety pin to hold the elastic in place so you can easily pass it through the fabric.

11. Join the two ends of the elastic, either by sewing them together or by making a tight double knot so that it doesn't come undone. Cut off any excess.

12. Repeat steps #10 and #11 for the bottom part of the body piece.

13. To create the sleeves, repeat the entire process with the two small pieces of fabric. (Fold the fabric in half, sew a straight line to join the ends, create a hem at the top and bottom and sew them to create a tunnel on both sides, and add the elastic.)

14. To finish the project, attach the sleeves to the body with a small stitch.

♥ Tip: For best results, try on the pieces several times during the process, and make adjustments as needed.
