Project: Messenger Bag
Materials:
- 1 yard of cotton fabric from our Fabric Touch
- Seamstress's Wallet
- Loop Turner
- Sewing machine
Instructions:
1. Cut two pieces of fabric 11" wide and 30" long. (They can be the same fabric or fabrics with different prints.) (See Diagram)
2. Place the two pieces of fabric with the design facing inwards, sew three of the sides, and turn the piece right side out.
3. Fold the open side inwards and close it by sewing a straight line.
4. To create the bag: Fold the bottom up, measuring approximately 10.5 inches, and sew a straight line on each side. (The open side will form the flap of the bag.)
5. Gradually pull the threads, gathering the fabric. Make a double knot at the end.
6. To create the purse handle: Cut a strip 4" wide and the same length as the fabric (approx. 44") (See Diagram). Fold the strip in half, forming a tube, and sew one of the short sides. Sew the entire long side.
7. Use a "loop turner" to turn the piece on the short side that remains open.
8. Sew the last short side to close the wallet handle.
9. Verify that the measurement has resulted in the desired length, and then attach it to the wallet by sewing a square at each end on the back of the bag.
